FAQ # 8
ALL-WaysTM Support
Why is the horses ESP Running Style sometimes different in ALL-Ways than it is in the BRIS Past Performance Generator?
ALL-Ways does not use the ESP Running Style designations that are available from BRIS. ALL-Ways determines its own ESP designations and does so using a method that is a bit different than that used by BRIS.
You could actually call the ALL-Ways ESP designation "the horses preferred running style". ALL-Ways looks at all the races in the past performance lines of a horse, determines the horses ESP Running Style in each race and then weights the individual race ESP designations based on how well the horse did in the race. More weight is given to races in which the horse did well. Finally, ALL-Ways looks at these weighted designations and makes a final determination of the horses overall preferred ESP Running Style.
The ESP Running Style designations made by ALL-Ways have proven to be extremely effective over the past several years. Using the ALL-Ways ESP designations, try figuring out where each horse in a race is most likely to run up to the second call (4 furlongs in sprints and 6 furlongs in routes). You will be amazed how accurately you will be able to do this.
One last point: ESP Running Styles are based on where the horse runs up to the second call. If you want to know where a horse will run at the first call (2 furlongs in sprints and 4 furlongs in routes), use the FCP (First Call Position) and QuirinSpeed Points factors. Both of these handicapping factors measure a horses desire and ability to be on or near the lead at the first call.
