What is the best way to get started with ALL-Ways?

We will keep this answer reasonably brief. First, let’s review the process (mechanics) for handicapping a race card in ALL-Ways.

Step 1. Download the ALL-Ways data file from BRIS.

Step 2. Unzip the data file.

Step 3. Process the data file in the Par Update function.

Step 4. Process the data file in the Translate function.

Step 5. Handicap the races in the Handicapping Module.

Step 6. Enter the results using the Automatic function in the Results Update Module.

Now, we will try to answer the question with some simple do’s and do not’s.

Do not try to read the entire User Manual. Use the User Manual as a reference manual. Go to it when you have a question.

Do read the paper "How ALL-Ways Works". You can view and/or print this paper from the Support section of our Web site. This brief five-page paper will give you a good feel for the concepts behind ALL-Ways.

Do read through the Quick Start Manual so you get a feel for how the software works.

Do process the sample race card that came with ALL-Ways.

Do not print out all the handicapping reports. It will, for sure, be information overload.

Do print out the Contender Summary Report and the All Factors Report. Learn to read the Contender Summary Report and you will go a long way towards being able to read any handicapping report in ALL-Ways. Appendix B in the User Manual explains all the contents of the Contender Summary Report. Learn the handicapping factors that are in the All Factors Report. Appendix C in the User Manual explains each of the handicapping factors.

Do print out the Dangerous Non Contender List, which only prints one page for the entire race card. This will be a rich source of long shot play.

Do read the ALL-Ways Newsletters. Pay particular attention to the October 1996 Newsletter and the article on Pace Handicapping. Also, pay attention to the October 1997 Newsletter and the article on Spotting High Priced Horses.

Do build up your Race Database for a track to 100 or so races and then use the Multiple Regression Analysis Default function in the Analysis Module to automatically create Handicapping Profiles tuned to the specific types of races run at the specific track.

Do not try to bet every race. It is as important to know when not to bet as it is knowing when to bet.

Do contact us if you have any questions.

Do have fun.
