FAQ # 32
ALL-WaysTM Support

Why save the calculated Impact Values when prompted to do so after an IV Analysis Report run?

Whenever you run an Impact Value Analysis, ALL-Ways asks if you want to save the Impact Values that were just calculated as part of the analysis. The reason you would answer "YES" is because you want to use the calculated IV’s in your own custom Handicapping Profiles.

Here is how this works. ALL-Ways has the ability to save one set of calculated IV’s. A set includes the IV’s for all 71 handicapping factors for each of the six basic groups of races, namely dirt sprints, dirt routes, turf sprints, turf routes, off track dirt sprints and off track dirt routes. So, when you save the calculated IV’s, they are saved individually for each of the six race types. If you then go to the Profile Module to create or modify a Handicapping Profile, these calculated IV’s will be available to automatically be put into the new or modified profile. When it is time to enter the IV’s into a new or modified profile, you are asked if you want to use the original default IV’s or the calculated IV’s or if you want to enter the IV’s manually. If you answer that you want to use the calculated IV’s, you will be asked to select one of the six race types listed above. Then the calculated IV’s will automatically be entered for the handicapping factors that are in the profile.

This is a very powerful and time saving feature. For example, lets say you want to manually create a Handicapping Profile for non maiden races where the winner paid $15 or more. You just set the proper race screens to include only those races, run the IV Analysis and save the calculated IV’s. Then go directly to the Profile Module using the "hot key" at the bottom of the Analysis screen on your monitor, select the factors and apply the calculated IV’s.

There are a couple of important points to keep in mind. First, if there are no races for one of the six race types, then the IV’s for that specific race type will all be 0.5. This might occur if you have no such race type in your Race Database or if you screened them all out. The correct calculated IV’s will be there for the other race types. Second, ALL-Ways only stores one set of calculated IV’s and they will always represent the last IV Analysis run you did where you save the calculated IV’s . So if your last run was for non maiden races only, the calculated IV’s will be good only for non maiden races. Of course you could rerun the IV Analysis for maidens only and save the maiden IV’s. Then, the IV’s that were calculated for non maiden races will be replace by the maiden IV’s.
