FAQ # 31
ALL-WaysTM Support

Why would you want to create a custom Handicapping Profile manually when you can use the Multiple Regression Analysis function(s) to create the profile automatically?

Versions 4.0 and 5.0 of ALL-Ways did not include the Multiple Regression Analysis function(s). MRA was introduced in Version 6.0 about two years after ALL-Ways was put on the market. So, for two years, all ALL-Ways users created their own custom Handicapping Profiles. ALL-Ways makes this very easy to do. Many ALL-Ways handicappers have become so good at creating their own profiles that they continue to do so, generally in addition to creating other profiles using the MRA functions.

There are other reasons you may want try creating your own custom Handicapping Profiles.

First, we have implemented the MRA functions in a manner such that they look for the win, place and show horses, not just the win horse. We give up a little bit on the win side in order to bring in the place and show horses. We did this because the overwhelming majority of ALL-Ways users play Exactas and Trifectas. You can probably create your own custom profiles that can get a slightly higher win percentage than the MRA profiles.

Second, in the Professional Edition, there is the MRA Custom function as well as the MRA Default function. This MRA Custom function lets the user set the race screens and then click the MRA Custom button to automatically create the profiles for selected types of races. For example, in the Professional Edition, you can tell ALL-Ways to only look at non maiden races with a Fast Early Race Pace Shape (EEE and EE races) and then use the MRA Custom function to create the profiles. the Standard Edition does not include the MRA Custom function. So, to create the same profiles in the Standard Edition requires that the user set the race screens, run an IV Analysis and then go to the Profile Module and create the profiles manually.

Third, in the ALL-Ways "White Paper" covering how to create custom Handicapping Profiles, we show you several different profile strategies. Note that you can download this Special Subject "White Paper" in this Support part of our web site. These profile strategies include profiles that look exclusively for the place and show horses, profiles that look for unbalanced horses (high class/low speed, high speed/low class), profiles that look exclusively for long shots and profiles that are just aimed at giving you a second opinion of the race. Some of these very specialized profiles lend themselves best to being created manually.

Finally, you may want to create your own custom profiles manually in order to use some of your favorite handicapping theories or angles. For example, you may want to create a non maiden Turf Route profile made up of the Back Class, the Back Speed, the Brohamer Total Ranking and the Comprehensive factors. Making your own custom Handicapping Profiles lets you be this specific.

So, why not give it a try. Create some of your own custom Handicapping Profiles. You will find it to be very powerful and a lot of fun as well. Plus, you can still also use the MRA functions as well.
