How to Download and Use the Handicapping Profiles

About These Files:

When you download a set of Handicapping Profiles for a track, you will be downloading a special self extracting executable (EXE) file. The file name will be named something like CDX28198.exe. The CDX indicates these are profiles for Churchill Downs. After you download this file into your computer, when you double click on the file name, it will automatically create two new files. In our CDX example, the files will be named IV.CDX and IVDEX.CDX. These are the two files that contain the Handicapping Profiles. When they are put into your FRANFILE directory/folder, they will be available to you to handicap Churchill Downs' races.

The name of the EXE file tells you three things. The first three characters are the track code for the track. The next 3 digits tell you how many races were in the Race Database that was used to create the Handicapping Profiles. The next two digits tell you the year the Handicapping Profiles were posted on the Web site for downloading. Using our example of CDX29898.exe, these are Handicapping Profiles for Churchill Downs that were made from a Race Database containing 298 races and they were posted to our Web site in 1998. One special note: If the number of races is something like 001 or 002, etc., then we do not know the number of races that were in the Race Database when the Handicapping Profiles were created.

How to Download the Files:

What you will be doing is downloading and saving the file into a directory/folder on the hard drive in your computer. By default, the directory/folder will be the one currently set in your Web Browser as the download directory/folder. You can, however, change to a different directory/folder during the downloading process. We suggest you download these files into your FRANDATA directory/folder or into a directory/folder you set up exclusively for these Handicapping Profile EXE files. We recommend an exclusive directory/folder.

Tips:

  • DO NOT download the files into your FRANFILE directory/folder.
  • To start the downloading process, simply click on the file name of the Handicapping Profile EXE file you want to download, set the name of the directory and click SAVE.

How to Use the Downloaded Handicapping Profiles:

To use a set of Handicapping Profiles for a track, go to the directory/folder containing the self extracting EXE file, double click on the file name and put the extracted files into your C:\FRANFILE directory/folder. Remember there will be two extracted files, one named IV.xxx and one named IVDEX.xxx where the "xxx" is the track code. These are a matched set of files. They must always be used together.

If you installed ALL-Ways on a disk drive other than drive "C", you will need to change the "C" in the C:\FRANFILE destination directory/folder to the drive on which you installed ALL-Ways. For
example, if you installed ALL-Ways on your "D" drive, the destination directory/folder becomes D:\FRANFILE.If you are using Millennium software, you will need to change the "FRANFILE" in the C:\FRANFILE destination directory/folder to MILLFILE." For example, if you installed Millennium on your "C" drive, the destination directory/folder becomes C:\MILLFILE.

  • Very Important!

When you put these two files into your FRANFILE directory, they will overwrite files with the same name if they are there. So, if you have your own Handicapping Profiles for a track and you want to try a set of downloaded Handicapping Profiles, you should make a copy of your Handicapping Profile files and place them in a different directory/folder.

    Tip:

When you double click on the name of the self-extracting executable file, it extracts copies of the two Handicapping Profile files as described above. However, the self-extracting file is still there and it still contains the two Handicapping Profile files. This makes it easy for you to go back and forth between different sets of Handicapping Profiles that you download for a single track. Just double click on the Self-extracting EXE file you want to use and overwrite the old Handicapping Profiles in the FRANFILE directory.
